Re: What has been your experience as a student in the Vet Technician Program?

This program, like many others has it's ups and downs. If you are an independent, self-motivated person this is a wonderful program that provides a lot of freedom. You don't have to meet crazy deadlines, or stay up all hours of the night trying to finish all your homework and papers, and you can work and have a life while being a student. It is also, much more affordable than traditional schools. That is one of the big reasons I love Penn Foster. Flexibility and affordability. =D

The hardest bit for most students in this program (myself included!)-I think is the practicum. Finding sites can be challenging (but a lot of students are very successful-so do not be discouraged). The biggest thing is to get experience and get out there- let your name be known and be brave and bold. If you can get to a working interview you usually have the job/position. =) That and Banfield is partnered with Penn Foster now-making it a good possibility for a lot of students. Don't let a few "No's" stop you. Penn Foster is a sound, accredited program and you are as good of a vet tech student as any other (in some cases better-Penn Foster Vet Tech students score higher on the VTNE than some traditionally schooled techs!) =). You just have to nicely let the skeptics know that. =) It's about attitude and passion with this one, and one part good fortune.

The other thing is sustained motivation. Some of the classes kind of grind on you and get a bit boring-so you have to be aware that this feeling will-at some point-come. Just be prepared for it. Remember why you chose to enroll in the first place and keep your eye on the ball. Also, don't be afraid to walk away from your studies for a day or so to give yourself a break. It's amazing what a break can do for your mind and motivation! Just don't stay away too  long!

You can find a lot of help and motivation right here on the community, so please utilize it and come back frequently!

...Anyway I hope this helps! Good luck with your studies!
