Hi everyone,
I just wanted to give you an update on how my externship with Walgreen's is going. I just finished my first week. I work from 9 to 5 most days of the week. I have learned so much. What I have done so far is fill prescriptions, answer phone calls, take expired drugs off the shelf, write prescriptions, learn a little about how third party payers work (health insurance companies) and I'm still learning how to use Walgreen's pharmacy computer system (It is a lot to remember) I did 10 lessons of PPL's to get familiar with the Intercom Plus System which is their computer system. Everyone there is really nice to me. I will get to learn everything that a pharmacy technician does but handle money or the cash register I'm so anxious to learn and do more. I don't think I will get a job out of this externship because they just hired another pharmacy technician with way more experience than me but its ok. I plan on applying to Walgreen's and other pharmacies once I'm done with my externship. I'm enjoying my experience and I am sure now that I want to be a pharmacist. I want to work in retail first and after I get married and have kids I want to work in hospital pharmacy due to the different environments. For anyone considering a pharmacy to do their externship at Walgreen's is a awesome choice.
