Hello everyone!
I have always tried to be a glass half full kinda gal. I choose to live my life with a smile, even when the motivation bowl isn't full but, I know that life happens and even though we all as students have these great long term goals that we are trying to reach towards, sometimes it is not the easiest to keep on track with daily life happening all around us. I myself have been in a few funks and it is very easy to slide down and not want to climb back out. So I just want to share with my fellow students what helps me to stay on track, keep me motivated, and positive about my program and my success.
1. Positive Attitude!
As cliche and cheesy as that sounds, it really does help. You have control over your emotions and your own happiness. You just failed a test...you can choose to pout, feel discouraged and want to give up. OR you can take a deep breath, brush it off, take a mental note or in a notebook of the wrong answers to remember to take additional time on when studying, and brainstorm a different route to your studying routine to do better in the future. Use your negative experience as positive motivation to push forward and do better next time!
2. Goal Board
Somewhere that you frequently walk by or see numerous times on a daily basis, can be used as a billboard of reminders of why you wanted to pursue the degree you are working towards. I have a big cork board set up right above my desk. It is plastered with things that push me towards my degree and graduation. Whether I am just studying glance up and see them and smile or if I am feeling a little discouraged and really just need to take a few minutes staring at it to get my mind back in the game. It includes pictures of my daughter, she is the reason I even thought about going back to school. One day I was picturing her 3rd grade career day and I wanted to have a career and degree that she could be proud of and to also show her that no matter what you set your mind to if you try hard enough and work hard enough you can succeed anything you want to do. I have the Veterinary Technicians Oath on there, pictures of my dog and fish, motivational quotes, and pretty much anything that has any type of meaning to why I want to get my degree. It REALLY is beneficial and I have a lot of positive experiences with my goal board.
3. My Study Planner
When I first started at PF, I never used a planner and I did alright with time management, but slowly found myself getting a little behind. Ironically enough I had the idea to start using a planner on a post similar to this one. I pencil in deadline goals, motivational quotes every few weeks, color coordinate specific coursework for both my vet tech program and career readiness boot camp. It has been a great help in keeping me on track and motivated.
4. Student Community
I LOVE searching the PF student community to see congrats and shout outs! Seeing all the other PF students receiving diplomas, attending graduation, getting recognition for a job well done, seeing all their hard work paying off, it really sets a fire under my **** to keep on going because someday that will be me sharing a post of my graduation diploma, walking across the stage in scranton, attending graduation, and knowing that I can say I am a PFProud graduate!
5. Animal Planet
I absolutely LOVE all the vet shows on animal planet. They are educational, motivating, inspiring, and just so fascinating to watch. I watch all the vet tech's on the shows and I think to myself "that is going to be me someday" and it makes my heart smile. To know that all my endless nights of studying, my tedious planning, all my money spent on tuition, extra books, highlighter, post it notes, etc are all going towards one main goal. TO SUCCEED!
Now, just cause these are my main uses to help with motivation and are what works best for me, there is no right answer for what works for you! Everyone gets into their own groove and routine and finds what works best for them but I hope for anyone who is lacking in motivation right now or maybe wants to try some different routes to improve their routine that this helps! Feel free to add me as a connection if you want any more suggestions, have questions, want to make a new friend, or need someone to talk to. jvtrejo09 Good Luck and Happy Studying!
